Softball Recap: Portola Beats Chester for Their Sixth Straight Win

Portola extended their winning streak to six on Tuesday, bumping them up to 16-1. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Chester Volcanoes a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ellie Ferris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ainsleigh Pruitt, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Chester, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5. Having soared to a lofty 24 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Chester's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Delong, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Coming up, Portola will welcome Hamilton at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chester, they will venture away from home to square off against Los Molinos at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Volcanoes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
