Softball Recap: Tidewater Academy Comes Up Short

Tidewater Academy had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it five. They lost 13-4 to the Southampton Academy Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.

As for Southampton Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Southampton Academy's part, Claire White and Dutchess Rose made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, White pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Rose didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, White went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs and one stolen base, while Rose got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Southampton Academy got a massive performance out of Bryce Holland, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Holland has launched this season. Layla Weaver was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tidewater Academy will venture away from home to challenge Surry County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Southampton Academy, they will head out to take on Atlantic Shores Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
