Baseball Game Preview: Antioch Panthers vs. Mt. Eden Monarchs

The Antioch Panthers will face off against the Mt. Eden Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Antioch has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Mt. Eden will come in with five straight victories.

Last Friday, Antioch came up short against Armijo and fell 6-2.

Antioch saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Mutter, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Kamari Davis also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Mt. Eden narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Irvington 4-3.

Mateo Romo was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Mt. Eden hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvington struck out ten times.

Mt. Eden's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.5 runs across that stretch. As for Antioch, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Antioch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mt. Eden struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Antioch came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Eden in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, sneaking past 10-9. Does Antioch have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mt. Eden turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
