Basketball Recap: Kearney Bearcats vs. Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks

After flying high against Columbus last Friday, Kearney came back down to earth. The Kearney Bearcats took a 72-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks on Wednesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 81-68 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Kearney still got an impressive performance from Ben Johnson, who went 8 for 13 en route to 23 points in addition to seven assists and seven rebounds. Jacob Webber was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Leading Lincoln Southwest to victory were Uzziah Sanders and Makkiah Sanders. Uzziah went 11 of 15 on his way to 27 points, while Makkiah went 11 for 17 en route to 25 points and three steals. The matchup was Uzziah's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hudson Mezger, who posted nine points and five boards.

Kearney's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Lincoln Southwest, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
