Softball Game Preview: Katy Taylor Mustangs vs. Fulshear Chargers

For the second straight game, Katy Taylor will face off against Fulshear. The Mustangs will face off against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Katy Taylor's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Fulshear's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Katy Taylor heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Thursday. They fell just short of Fulshear by a score of 4-2. The Mustangs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

For Fulshear's part, Brinley Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. Jones has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gabriella Castillo (OSU) was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Shipp, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Fulshear is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Katy Taylor, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-7.
