Galt is 2-8 against Tokay since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Galt Warriors will host the Tokay Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Galt has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Friday, Galt lost to Oakmont at home by a 47-28 margin. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1111th, while the Vikings are ranked 458th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Izabella Cathey, who posted two points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexandra Gonzalez Landa, who put up nine points.
Even though they lost, Galt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Tokay had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Riptide 48-13. With the Tigers ahead 30-5 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Galt better keep an eye on Thalia Chavez. She was instrumental in Tokay's win, putting up 19 points and five steals. Chavez has become a key player for Tokay: the team is 10-4 when she posts at least five steals, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kaiyanna Landry, who had seven points and six steals.
Galt's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Tokay, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Galt has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29 boards per game. However, it's not like Tokay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Galt was taken down by Tokay 48-18 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will Galt have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
