Basketball Recap: Bethune-Bowman's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Bethune-Bowman suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Saturday. They came up short against the Jenkins Warriors, falling 66-43. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mohawks came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 74th in South Carolina, while the Warriors are ranked 231st in Georgia).

Jenkins' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dominique Johnson, who posted 13 points along with five boards and three steals. Johnson is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jordon Massey was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Bethune-Bowman moved to 12-6 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak. As for Jenkins, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.

Bethune-Bowman will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lowcountry Leadership at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th. As for Jenkins, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-53 loss against Heritage on the 20th.
