Baseball Game Preview: Berwyn/Cicero Morton Mustangs vs. Leyden Eagles

The Berwyn/Cicero Morton Mustangs will head out to challenge the Leyden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Berwyn/Cicero Morton has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Tuesday. Berwyn/Cicero Morton lost 12-2 to Downers Grove South. Berwyn/Cicero Morton has struggled against Downers Grove South recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.

Berwyn/Cicero Morton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Richmond, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Anthony Rodriguez was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Leyden unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Proviso West by a score of 8-7.

Leyden also got a good showing from Angel Espana, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Espana has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Julian Martinez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Tyler Koenig also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Leyden's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Berwyn/Cicero Morton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Leyden struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Berwyn/Cicero Morton came up short against Leyden in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 5-0. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
