Baseball Recap: Laney Takes a Loss

If Laney was feeling good fresh off their 12-1 takedown of Green Hope last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Laney Buccaneers fell just short of the Ashley Screaming Eagle by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their meetings with the Screaming Eagle: they've now lost five in a row.

Jackson Noon was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Jason Sproull was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Noon wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Laney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Laney's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Ashley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Coming up, Laney will face off against Hoggard at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ashley, they will square off against New Hanover at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (New Hanover 3.8, Ashley 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
