Baseball Game Preview: Gilmour Academy Lancers vs. Lutheran West Longhorns

The Gilmour Academy Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the Lutheran West Longhorns at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Gilmour Academy barely beat West Geauga the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lancers never let the Wolverines get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Lutheran West got the win against Trinity on Tuesday by a conclusive 18-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Jeansiel Vargas Ortiz was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Brandon Schneider was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Lutheran West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Gilmour Academy's record now sits at 9-2. As for Lutheran West, their record is now 10-5.

Gilmour Academy couldn't quite get it done against Lutheran West in their previous meeting back in May of 2017 as they fell 3-0. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
