Softball Recap: Dupo Wins Going Away Against New Athens

After losing to New Athens the last time they met, Dupo decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Tigers put the hurt on the Yellow Jackets with a sharp 9-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Addison Thompson, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep New Athens off the board. Thompson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaylyn Woods, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kylie Kloess was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Dupo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

With the win, Dupo broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8. As for New Athens, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dupo will welcome Wesclin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New Athens, they will be playing at home against Chester at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
