Football Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Briarwood Academy

If Gatewood wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Briarwood Academy, they should've done a better job of containing Cutler Fleming. The Buccaneers walked away with a 23-14 win over the Gators on Friday with plenty of help from Fleming, who rushed for 188 yards and one score, and also threw for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards.

Gatewood's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sean Bennett, who rushed for 81 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, and Brady Haley, who rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries. Bennett has become a key player for the Gators: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-4 otherwise.

The victory made it two in a row for Briarwood Academy and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 14 points in those games. As for Gatewood, they moved to 3-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
