Basketball Preview: Brazosport Exporters vs. Columbia Roughnecks
Brazosport and the Roughnecks are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Brazosport Exporters will be playing in front of their home fans against the Columbia Roughnecks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Brazosport is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Roughnecks in Texas (the Exporters are ranked 416th, while the Roughnecks are ranked 1137th).
After a string of five wins, Brazosport's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Iowa Colony on the road and fell 68-33.
Despite the defeat, Brazosport got a solid performance out of Londyn Brown, who scored six points along with 18 rebounds and two blocks. Brown has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last ten times she's played. Ahmasia Brown was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 16 rebounds.
Columbia can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They blew past La Marque, posting a 58-19 victory at home. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Columbia considering their 25-point performance the match before.
Alexia Lewis had a dynamite game for Columbia, scoring 23 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ayvah Fields, who scored five points along with 13 rebounds.
Brazosport's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-6. As for Columbia, their win bumped their record up to 10-19.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Brazosport have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 46.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Brazosport strolled past the Roughnecks when the teams last played back in January by a score of 59-45. Will Brazosport repeat their success, or do the Roughnecks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
