Selma had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Exeter Monarchs as they made off with a 6-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-1 last Tuesday.

Not much got past Noah Garcia-Ortega, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Exeter off the board. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Garcia-Ortega.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sonny Rivera, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Kayden Berry also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Selma's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Exeter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-5.

Selma and Exeter should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Bears (ranked 257th) will meet Sierra (ranked 587th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Exeter will take on Mendota at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (408 vs. 923).
