The Westwood Warriors will face off against the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Westwood took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Maryvale 15-5. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their two-run performance the contest before.
The team relied heavily on Lauren Cooper, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Navi Brinkerhoff, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge made easy work of Liberty on Tuesday and carried off a 7-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mountain Lions in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.
Gianna Torres spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Italia Carpio was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Bailee Mitchell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Mountain Ridge lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Mountain Ridge's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Westwood, the victory got them back to even at 6-6-1.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
