Wendell will take on Nampa Christian in a tournament on Saturday. Wendell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.3 runs per game this season.
Wendell is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering North Fremont just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 6-5.
Wendell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophie Mattix, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Nampa Christian faced Malad in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Trojans won by a run and slipped past the Dragons 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Trojans as they're now sitting on five straight.
Peyton Shook spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addison Gray was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Wendell's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Nampa Christian, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wendell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Nampa Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 13.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wendell couldn't quite finish off Nampa Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Wendell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
