Softball Preview: Letcher County Central Cougars vs. Leslie County Eagles
The Letcher County Central Cougars will head out to face off against the Leslie County Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Letcher County Central's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Leslie County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Letcher County Central not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 22nd (when they won 10-0). They never let Scott County get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Scarlett Stamper, who gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Scott County off the board. Stamper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kelsey Bentley was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaily Bentley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Floyd Central hit Leslie County with a five-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell 10-7 to the Jaguars. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
