Softball Recap: Thornton Academy Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kennebunk, Thornton Academy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Noble Knights a 10-0 shutout. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trojans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Not much got past Sophia Bogardus, who gave up just five hits to keep Noble off the board.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Barnes, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Theresa Eng, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Thornton Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Noble, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Thornton Academy will take on rival Falmouth at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Noble is set to face off against their familiar foe Massabesic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
