Softball Recap: West Holmes Knights vs. New Philadelphia Quakers
West Holmes had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-11 to make it four. They lost 11-4 to the New Philadelphia Quakers. The Knights were not able to make up for their defeat to the Quakers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
EMMA MILLER made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of ZALINA PROPER, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run.
As for New Philadelphia, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7. Considering they have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On New Philadelphia's side, Jillian Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. Howard has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Easton Miller was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Sidney Vandall was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
Coming up, West Holmes will host Loudonville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights are facing the Redbirds at the right time seeing as the Redbirds are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for New Philadelphia, they will take on Wooster at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
