Football Game Preview: Lamar Thunder vs. Manitou Springs Mustangs + How To Watch

The Lamar Thunder will head out to take on the Manitou Springs Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lamar will be strutting in after a victory while Manitou Springs will be coming in after a loss.

Lamar will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 12 points last Friday, then bounced right back against Woodland Park on Friday. The Thunder claimed a resounding 52-20 win over the Panthers. Considering the Thunder have won three games by more than 31 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jacob Dunning was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. He is becoming a predictor of Lamar's success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Cason Pollart was Dunning's top target, picking up 163 receiving yards and one score.

Lamar's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Alexander Williams was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself. Pollart got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Manitou Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a blow against La Junta, falling 63-13. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-7.

Manitou Springs' loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Lamar, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Lamar strolled past Manitou Springs when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 28-14. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Mustangs' Logan Moore, who rushed for 133 yards and a pair of TDs.
