Softball Recap: Demotte Christian Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

DeMotte Christian barely beat Heritage Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights put the hurt on the Defenders with a sharp 7-1 victory on Saturday. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.

Cheznie Kooy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eva Orsburn, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. Jorie Rottier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

DeMotte Christian's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-2. As for Heritage Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DeMotte Christian will head out to challenge Washington Township at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Heritage Christian, they will venture away from home to square off against Hammond Academy of Science & Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
