Baseball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. Point Loma Pointers

The St. Augustine Saints will square off against the Point Loma Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Augustine 3.6, Point Loma 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

St. Augustine headed into their last matchup having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Patrick Henry let them put that streak behind them. The Saints' pitcher stepped up to hand the Patriots a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Saints' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Not much got past Jonny Haskett, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Patrick Henry off the board. Haskett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Drake Konja was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Anthony Tompkins was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Point Loma's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of University City on Tuesday. The Pointers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Point Loma also got a good showing from Luis Lara, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Point Loma's loss dropped their record down to 11-6-1. As for St. Augustine, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7-1.

St. Augustine might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Point Loma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
