Volleyball Game Preview: Crimson Cliffs Mustangs vs. Payson Lions

The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Payson Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Crimson Cliffs won the last time they faced Pine View and Lily Jones did her part to make sure it happened again. The Mustangs skirted past the Panthers 3-2 thanks in part to Jones, who had 21 digs and five aces. She has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Crimson Cliffs took Pine View into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11.

Meanwhile, Payson hadn't done well against Wasatch recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Wasps 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since August 23rd.

Payson had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 17-15.

Crimson Cliffs' win bumped their record up to 17-6. As for Payson, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.

Crimson Cliffs beat Payson 3-1 in their previous matchup back in August. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
