Recap: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. West Wilkes Blackhawks
The Surry Central Golden Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to West Wilkes 35-31. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Surry Central of the 49-42 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Surry Central saw an underclassman step up: Layla Wall scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Presley Smith was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Surry Central's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for West Wilkes, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-7.
Surry Central will challenge Wilkes Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilkes Central is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. West Wilkes will take on Forbush at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Forbush presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than West Wilkes in North Carolina (Forbush is ranked 90th, while West Wilkes is ranked 204th).
