Basketball Game Preview: Montezuma-Cortez Panthers vs. Bayfield Wolverines

Montezuma-Cortez and Bayfield are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers will be playing at home against the Bayfield Wolverines at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Montezuma-Cortez comes in on three and Bayfield on four.

On Friday, Montezuma-Cortez beat Monte Vista 76-65.

Meanwhile, Bayfield hadn't done well against Pagosa Springs recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Bayfield managed a 49-44 victory over Pagosa Springs.

Montezuma-Cortez is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for Bayfield, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Montezuma-Cortez strolled past Bayfield when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 69-55. Will Montezuma-Cortez repeat their success, or does Bayfield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
