Basketball Recap: Elgin/Pope John Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Elgin/Pope John was the 79-28 winner over Humphrey-Lindsay when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Humphrey-Lindsay Bulldogs on Thursday.

Despite the defeat, Elgin/Pope John saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braelyn Martinsen posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Kurpgeweit, who had 11 points.

Elgin/Pope John's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-4. As for Humphrey-Lindsay, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

The future could be bright for both Elgin/Pope John and Humphrey-Lindsay: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Elgin/Pope John will try to hand Chambers/Wheeler Central their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, Humphrey-Lindsay will look to extend Madison's five-game losing streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
