Baseball Recap: Wickliffe Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Wickliffe had lost five straight, but after bumping their record up to 3-5 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Brooklyn Hurricanes as they made off with a 15-2 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Joseph Zivnoska looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Wickliffe's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Frankie Bucar, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Kish, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Wickliffe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Brooklyn, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Brooklyn's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Vega, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Nathan Phillips also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wickliffe will take on Chagrin Falls at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Brooklyn, they will face off against Fairview at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
