Softball Recap: Fort Payne Comes Up Short

Fort Payne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 6-3 to the Cherokee County Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 5-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Harleigh Morgan was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Morgan was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, Natalie Meadows was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three).

Even though they lost, Fort Payne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fort Payne's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Cherokee County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Wildcats coming up. As for Cherokee County, they will square off against White Plains at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
