Baseball Game Preview: Catholic Memorial Crusaders vs. Union Grove Broncos

The Catholic Memorial Crusaders will head out on the road to square off against the Union Grove Broncos at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Catholic Memorial is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marquette University.

Catholic Memorial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cal Weber, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Union Grove fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Westosha Central on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 4-3. The Broncos have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cody Ashburn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Leo Weist was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ethan Meves, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Catholic Memorial's record now sits at 0-2. As for Union Grove, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
