Baseball Game Preview: Pender Patriots vs. Clinton Dark Horses

The Pender Patriots will venture away from home to square off against the Clinton Dark Horses at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Pender will bounce into Monday's game after beating Wallace-Rose Hill, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Patriots walked away with a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Patriots as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Reese Robertson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Carter Brown also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Pender always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Clinton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against St. Pauls by a score of 12-9. Winning may never get old, but the Dark Horses sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Josh Slater made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Slater was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Zyhan Wallace was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. Henry Bass was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Pender's record is now 4-12. As for Clinton, their record now sits at 13-4.
