Volleyball Recap: Lucia Ferreira's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bucksport over North Yarmouth Academy

If Bucksport was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Lee Academy on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Bucks fell 3-1 to the North Yarmouth Academy Panthers on Saturday. The Golden Bucks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 14-25, 25-17, 25-19.

Bucksport lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lucia Ferreira, who had ten kills, seven digs, and four aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served four or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marina Keene, who had 14 digs and five aces.

Bucksport has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for North Yarmouth Academy, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Bucksport will square off against Narraguagus at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Yarmouth Academy, they will challenge Lewiston at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
