Basketball Recap: Windermere Prep Falls Short of Tampa Catholic in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Windermere Prep can now relate to. They fell to the Tampa Catholic Crusaders 62-57. The Lakers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Several Lakers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brandon Bass Jr., who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. The matchup was Bass Jr.'s sixth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Martis, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 14 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Windermere Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive contests.

Tampa Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Willie Piggott out in front who went 9-for-13 en route to 28 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Piggott is becoming a predictor of Tampa Catholic's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 15-3 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Isaiah Campbell-Finch was another key player, going 7-for-12 on his way to 19 points and five assists.

Windermere Prep now has a losing record of 13-14. As for Tampa Catholic, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 20-9.

Windermere Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Tampa Catholic, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 82-64 win against Lake Highland Prep on the 17th.
