Heart of Illinois recap Oct. 3, 2012
Tri-Valley extended the longest winning streak in Heart of Illinois this week by beating Lexington, 61-20. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Vikings.
Ridgeview moved up to 154 from 217 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by beating Watseka 24-14.
Flanagan/Woodland's dynamic duo of Alec Dutko and Alex Erschen proved tough for Fisher to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Dutko threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns and Erschen had 87 yards receiving. Nate Roemer helped Flanagan/Woodland's passing attack out by catching two balls for 67 yards.
Dustin Payton was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 184 yards on 31 carries as Deer Creek-Mackinaw bested the Bunnies. Teammate Brad Orrick added to the ground attack by rushing for 81 yards.
Flanagan/Woodland's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Falcons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dutko has thrown for 706 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Erschen has 11 catches for 291 yards. Kody Appel leads the league in rushing with 744 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when LeRoy takes on Ridgeview. At the moment, the Panthers are in third, while Mike Benton's team is in second.
LeRoy took down Blue Ridge 65-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
