Softball Recap: Segerstrom Starts Season with Win Against Portola

Segerstrom took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Portola Bulldogs with a sharp 16-3 victory.

Sophia Lambaren made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Segerstrom got a massive performance out of Alyssa Martinez, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Martinez a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Jaelene Bautista, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Segerstrom will host San Clemente at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Portola, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Saddleback at 3:30 p.m. on February 25th.
