Baseball Recap: Hazen Comes Up Short

Hazen was the 7-1 winner over Redmond when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Highlanders fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday.

Sam Nicholson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hazen is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Hazen saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rydan Corwin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Hazen has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Redmond, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-6.

Coming up, Hazen will look to defend their home field on Friday against Juanita at 7:00 p.m. As for Redmond, they will square off against Bothell at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
