Baseball Recap: Owego Free Academy Comes Up Short

If Owego Free Academy was feeling good fresh off their 17-2 takedown of Norwich last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The River Hawks fell just short of the Oneonta Yellowjackets by a score of 6-5 on Friday. The River Hawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Yellowjackets from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Conlan Taylor and Connor Kotski were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, Taylor didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Kotski pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Taylor scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Kotski scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evan English, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jack Buchsbaum also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Owego Free Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2-1. As for Oneonta, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Owego Free Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-2 win against Seton Catholic Central on the 14th. Oneonta has also already played their next game (against Windsor Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
