Basketball Recap: Van-Far Falls Despite Big Games from Carson Huff and Pacey Reading

Van-Far has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-60 heartbreaker at the hands of the Canton Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Tigers are ranked 84th).

Van-Far's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Pacey Reading, who went 9 for 18 on his way to 24 points, and Carson Huff, who went 7 of 12 en route to 20 points. Those 20 points gave Huff a new career-high. Gaven Gaston was another key player, putting up six points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.

It was another big night for Preston Brewer, who shot 4-for-6 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine boards for Canton. Brewer's morning made it 17 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Blake Sparrow, who posted eight points.

Van-Far's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Canton, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.

Van-Far has already played their next game, a 67-37 victory against Louisiana on the 28th. As for Canton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-48 win against Northeast on the 30th.
