Basketball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Nogales

There's no place like home for Nogales, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They managed a 42-36 victory over the Flowing Wells Caballeros on Friday. This was payback for the Apaches, who suffered a 50-31 loss the last time these two teams met.

Nogales' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Arlette Munoz, who went 8 for 18 on her way to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Munoz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cecilia Burruel, who posted 15 points along with five boards and four steals.

Flowing Wells' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allison Verdugo, who put up eight points in addition to 17 rebounds and three steals. Verdugo has become a key player for Flowing Wells: the team is 14-2 when she posts at least eight boards, but 3-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Adonia Mendez, who earned seven points and seven rebounds.

Nogales pushed their record up to 14-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 40.8 points. As for Flowing Wells, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 17-6 record.

Coincidentally, Nogales and Flowing Wells will both be playing Cienega the next time they take the court. Nogales will head out to face Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Flowing Wells will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
