Basketball Game Preview: Newport Grizzlies vs. Chewelah Cougars

The Newport Grizzlies will venture away from home to challenge the Chewelah Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Newport and six for Chewelah dating back to last season.

Newport is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Northwest Christian School on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Newport might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Northwest Christian School an easy 51-26 win. That's two games in a row now that the Grizzlies have lost by exactly 25 points.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-8, which was the final score in Chewelah's tilt against Reardan on Wednesday. The contest marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Chewelah, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Newport couldn't quite finish off Chewelah when the teams last played back in December of 2023 and fell 38-35. Can Newport avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
