Baseball Recap: Fairview Wins Going Away Against Sentinel

Fairview made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Sentinel, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on Sentinel with a sharp 12-2 victory on Thursday. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Yellowjackets this season.

Haddon Miller and Wyatt Schmitz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Miller tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Schmitz pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Fairview is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 2-9 otherwise. At bat, Miller scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Schmitz scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Schmitz a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trace Bonham, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Fairview's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't).

Fairview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Fairview and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Sentinel, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Fairview and Sentinel could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings. The Yellowjackets (ranked 228th) will meet Thomas-Fay-Custer (ranked 92nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Sentinel will square off against Canute at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (177 vs. 15).
