East Central had lost four straight headed into Friday's game, but Maddox Dunn didn't let it get to five. The Hornets had just enough and edged out the Vancleave Bulldogs 27-24 with plenty of help from Dunn, who rushed for 149 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 123 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight passes. Dunn is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 131 every time he's taken the field this season.

One reason for the win was East Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Lucas Smith, Carter Green, and Oren Kibby, who each picked up one sack apiece. East Central got some further help from Trevor Wall: he forced one fumble and made 15 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

East Central's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-7. As for Vancleave, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

East Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 35-21 loss against Stone on the 6th. As for Vancleave, they have also already played their next matchup, a 30-0 defeat against Purvis on the 6th.
