Baseball Recap: Yuma Outlaws vs. Burlington Cougars

Yuma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-3 to the Burlington Cougars, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Yuma of the 4-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture on Saturday.

Reyli Trejo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Carson Lynch was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Even though they lost, Yuma didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 14 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burlington only tossed nine.

On Burlington's side, Rowdy Humrich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. Humrich has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Tyler Ziegler was excellent, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Yuma's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Burlington, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Yuma will head out on the road to square off against Byers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Byers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season. Burlington does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
