Baseball Game Preview: Hickory Hornets vs. Sharon Tigers

Hickory and Sharon are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Hornets will challenge the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hickory will be strutting in after a win while Sharon will be coming in after a defeat.

Hickory let Slippery Rock stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Monday but luckily Hickory prevailed anyway. The Hornets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Rockets. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hornets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Hickory saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Ristvey, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. Those two runs gave Ristvey a new career-high. Another was Ty Turosky, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Sharon fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Slippery Rock on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 8-7. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 8, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Will Beckert and Logan Perks did some serious damage despite the final result: Beckert got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Perks got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Marko Zajac was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Sharon's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Hickory, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.

Hickory couldn't quite finish off Sharon when the teams last played back in April and fell 7-5. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
