Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Swain County). Their defense stepped up to hand the Cherokee Braves a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Maroon Devils, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

They hit Cherokee with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Mya Burrows-Kurr (2), Karena Cline (2), Claire Ball, and Audrey Monteith.

Swain County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three matchups. As for Cherokee, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Swain County will square off against Tri-County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cherokee, they will face off against Highlands at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cherokee has given up an average of 2.8 goals per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
