Softball Recap: Henderson Comes Up Short

Henderson extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 6-9. They came up short against the Downingtown West Whippets, falling 9-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Whippets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 back in March.

Avery Reitnour was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

As for Downingtown West, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Nine seems to be a good number for them as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Downingtown West's side, Kiri Weidner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Casey McWilliams, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lillian O'Laughlin, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Henderson will face off against rival Oxford at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Downingtown West is set to take on their familiar foe Downingtown East at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
