Basketball Game Preview: New Waverly Bulldogs vs. Kountze Lions

The New Waverly Bulldogs will take on the Kountze Lions on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

New Waverly is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They managed a 49-43 win over East Bernard.

Meanwhile, Kountze came tearing into Monday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 47.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Eagles 78-35. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Eagles are ranked 725th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

New Waverly is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. As for Kountze, their victory bumped their record up to 23-3.

New Waverly took a serious blow against Kountze in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 74-33. Can New Waverly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
