Football Recap: Jones Comes Up Short

Jones extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They were dealt a 45-7 loss at the hands of the El Campo Ricebirds. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 671st, while the Ricebirds are ranked 313th).

Tyler Lang threw for 58 yards and one TD. On the ground, Gavin Garza rushed for 65 yards on only eight carries.

As for El Campo, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The result was nothing new for the Ricebirds, who have now won five contests by 23 points or more so far this season.

It was another big night for Vladamir Garcia, who rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also caught one score. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 123 rushing yards. Andy Russell got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Jones didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 41-36 defeat against Calhoun on the 17th. As for El Campo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 49-7 victory against Floresville on the 17th.
