Preview: Kouts Mustangs & Fillies vs. South Central Satellites
Kouts is 8-2 against South Central since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Kouts Mustangs & Fillies will head out on the road to face off against the South Central Satellites at 7:30 p.m.
Last Saturday, Kouts took a serious blow against Kankakee Valley, falling 65-31. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kouts in their matchups with Kankakee Valley: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact South Central proved on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-41 win over Trinity. The victory made it back-to-back wins for South Central.
South Central can attribute much of their success to Derek Welsh, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and Jay Huerta, who scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which Huerta has scored at least 25% of South Central's points. Another player making a difference was Clayten Strauch, who scored 9 points.
Kouts' win bumped their season record to 1-3 while Kankakee Valley's defeat dropped theirs to 2-1.
Everything came up roses for Kouts against South Central when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 71-31 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kouts since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
