Basketball Game Preview: San Elizario Eagles vs. Burges Mustangs

The San Elizario Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Burges Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

San Elizario is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Chapin on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. San Elizario took a blow against Chapin, falling 68-19. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Meanwhile, Burges had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They strolled past the Angels with points to spare, taking the game 44-25. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Angels are ranked 932nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Burges now has a winning record of 9-8. As for San Elizario, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

San Elizario took a serious blow against Burges in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, falling 60-11. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point San Elizario was down 32-2.
