Preview: Saint Andrew's Scots vs. Pine Crest Panthers
The Saint Andrew's Scots will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Pine Crest Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on January 25th. Hopefully Saint Andrew's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Monday.
Last Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Saint Andrew's beat American Heritage 39-35. The victory was just what Saint Andrew's needed coming off of a 62-24 loss in their prior match.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Saint Andrew's to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emma Smith, who scored 16 points along with six steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bret Marbach, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Pine Crest had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 43-30 victory over Gulliver Prep.
Saint Andrew's record now sits at 10-5. As for Pine Crest, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Saint Andrew's came up short against Pine Crest in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 50-38. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pine Crest's Isabella M sangha, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 19 rebounds. Now that Saint Andrew's knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
